The ISTU Clinical Award is a newly established honour, and Professor Cranston is its inaugural recipient. The award was presented at the society’s 25th Annual Symposium for Therapeutic Ultrasound, held at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway, from 15–18 June 2026.

Professor Cranston is Emeritus Associate Professor of Surgery and Clinical Director of the High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Unit at NDS. Throughout his career, he has played a leading role in advancing the clinical development and application of HIFU technology, helping to establish it as an important therapeutic option for patients.

Reflecting on the recognition, Professor Cranston said: ‘As the first recipient of this award, it reflects not only my contribution but also that of a huge number of people, both in Oxford and beyond.’
