In conversation with Professor Paul Klenerman of the Nuffield Department of Medicine, Professor Issa reflects on his journey from reconstructive surgery to the forefront of immune tolerance research. He shares insights from the groundbreaking, first-in-human ONE Trial, which investigated the use of T reg therapy in kidney transplant patients.

The trial demonstrated promising graft survival outcomes and revealed B cell-enriched focal lymphocytic infiltrates in the T reg-treated group, shedding new light on immune regulation in transplantation. The discussion also explores how spatial transcriptomics is advancing understanding of these mechanisms and guiding the next phase of immune tolerance research.
